executive council
Many of us aren’t familiar with the Executive Council, a body of 5 elected officials who hold collectively hold the most powerful office in the State. Our current Executive Councilor has used that power to advance extreme positions that don’t represent the interests of Rye voters and our families.
Did you know…
…that current Executive Councilor Janet Stevens was the ONLY Council member to vote against extending the lease of The Seacoast Science Center, a facility that has provided decades of education and entertainment to thousands of Seacoast families and their children?
…that Janet Stevens voted to reject $27 million in emergency relief federal funding to help support NH COVID-19 vaccination efforts during the height of the pandemic?
Janet Stevens and the GOP-led Executive Council vetoed state Family Planning contracts FOUR times, gutting programs that provide reproductive health care, prenatal care, and cancer screening for 16,000 low-income Granite Staters.
There are only 5 members of the Executive Council, and they are responsible for approving all expenditures and contracts over $10k and confirming over 170 appointments, including judges as well as commissioners, such as the Commissioner of Education.
There is no check on the power of the Executive Council, which means when they make a decision that does not reflect the will of their constituents, they become a minority ruling the majority. Let’s elect Katherine Harake to Executive Council to represent our Granite State values in Concord!
