Abortion rights

There are currently no state constitutional protections for abortion rights in New Hampshire. Congressional Republicans have clearly signaled that they will seek a national abortion ban if they gain the majority in November, with State Republicans in strong agreement.

Gov. Sununu signed the bill into law without any exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal diagnoses.

The bill, which went into effect on January 1, 2022, is New Hampshire's first abortion ban in modern history. Gov. Sununu’s abortion ban broke with decades of bipartisan respect for a women’s rights to work with her doctor to make her own health care decisions.
